The 8ACLS-4R is a US-style E-rated fuse link for motor circuit protection at 7.2 kV. The E rating is the defining characteristic: the fuse carries its rated current continuously and opens at a defined multiple of that current within a specified time band. That predictability is what allows the fuse to be coordinated with the motor starter's overload relay, so the relay clears a sustained overload and the fuse only responds to a short circuit.
8ACLS-4R key attributes
| Attribute | Value / basis | Why it matters |
| Type | US style E-rated | Defined time-current band, coordinates with overload relay |
| Voltage class | 7.2 kV | Motor circuit at medium voltage |
| Ampguard | Fitted | Limits let-through I²t into the motor winding |
| Rated current | 4R designation | Motor full-load current basis, not cable rating |
| Cross reference | JCR-A-4R, 130-4R-1C-8.25w | Verify dimensional and electrical equivalence |
E-rated fuses use an R designation tied to motor full-load current rather than to a cable ampacity. A 4R fuse is selected against the motor's nameplate current, not against the size of the feeder conductor. Substituting a fuse of the same ampere rating from a general-purpose family is therefore not equivalent: the time-current characteristic differs, and the coordination with the overload relay is lost.
The cross references listed for this part — JCR-A-4R and 130-4R-1C-8.25w — are electrically similar devices from other manufacturers. Before substituting, three things have to match: the voltage class, the E-rating time band, and the physical dimensions including the striker or indicator arrangement. A clip-in replacement with the wrong striker will not operate the switch-fuse tripping mechanism, which defeats the purpose of fitting a fuse with an indicator in the first place.
