Huawei and Hubei Transport Investment Group Unveil "Highway Integrated Energy Demonstration Line" in Wuhan

On August 23, under the theme "Seamless Travel in Jingchu, Worry-Free Charging," the launch ceremony for the Hubei Highway Integrated Energy Demonstration Line and the Super Charging Experience Day was held in Wuhan. The event marked the significant release of the "Highway Integrated Energy Demonstration Line," a collaborative project between Hubei Transport Investment Group Co., Ltd. and Huawei Digital Power.

The launch event gathered industry experts, charging operators, automobile manufacturers, and other key stakeholders to discuss the construction of new energy infrastructure within highway networks. This initiative aims to upgrade the new energy charging network comprehensively, propelling highway networks toward a new era of green travel.

Enhancing the Energy Supply Experience for Electric Vehicle Users

In his speech, Liu Dawei, Global President of Huawei Digital Power's Intelligent Charging Network Business, emphasized that the energy replenishment experience for electric vehicle (EV) users is critical to the industry's growth. The Ministry of Transport has been actively promoting the adoption of high-power charging facilities in highway service areas. High-quality charging infrastructure, represented by Huawei's supercharging technology, plays a vital role in building a comprehensive "highway supercharging network." This effort is not only in response to the growing demand for green travel but also a key factor in driving the upgrade of the electric vehicle industry and stimulating consumer demand. Furthermore, by developing a grid-friendly, photovoltaic-storage-charging integrated charging infrastructure, the resilience of the main highway grid system can be significantly enhanced. Huawei Digital Power is committed to collaborating with partners to build an open, cooperative, and mutually beneficial supercharging ecosystem.

Lei Cheng, a member of the Party Committee and Vice General Manager of Hubei Transport Investment Group, highlighted in his speech the strategic partnership with Huawei Digital Power. By leveraging the strengths of both companies in resources and technology, they aim to eliminate the "range anxiety" associated with highway energy replenishment through an "all-category" approach. This collaboration has led to continuous breakthroughs in technological innovation and equipment upgrades, enhancing the user experience while injecting new momentum into the new energy and intelligent connected vehicle industries. As a pioneering initiative, the Han-Shi Expressway has been developed into Hubei's Highway Integrated Energy Demonstration Line, pushing the "transportation + energy" industry integration to new heights.


Addressing Challenges in Highway Charging Infrastructure

In his keynote speech, Peng Peng, Vice President of Huawei Digital Power's Intelligent Charging Business, discussed the need to accelerate the construction of a high-quality charging target network, primarily focused on ultra-fast charging. He emphasized the importance of combining proactive planning with smooth evolution, accelerating the 100% coverage of ultra-fast, high-power charging facilities, and introducing fully liquid-cooled supercharging systems, which represent a new form of productivity. This approach is crucial for advancing the electrification of the automotive industry.

Huawei's supercharging technology, with a maximum charging power of 600 kW, provides an unmatched "one second per kilometer" charging experience, a lifespan exceeding ten years, and high turnover rates enabled by power pooling technology. These features make it the optimal solution for current charging network needs. Through green, sustainable development across the power source, grid, load, storage, and vehicle sectors, Huawei, alongside its partners, is building a high-quality highway charging network and a "highway supercharging network" that supports green and sustainable travel.

Building a Smart, Low-Carbon Highway Transportation System

Leveraging Hubei Province's unique position as a transportation hub, the province's highway network is a crucial part of the national integrated transportation network framework and plays a significant role in the central region's transportation system. Guided by the national dual-carbon strategy and seizing the opportunities of the digital age, Hubei Transport Investment Group has pioneered the development of the "Highway Integrated Energy Demonstration Line" along the Han-Shi Expressway.

The project spans five administrative regions, including Wuhan, Xiaogan, Suizhou, Xiangyang, and Shiyan. Currently, seven supercharging stations have been built in Xiaogan, Suizhou, Zhonggang, and Wudang Mountain, featuring supercharging solutions that integrate photovoltaic power with Huawei’s supercharging technology. These stations significantly reduce the pressure and cost on the grid by meeting the lighting and daily power needs of service areas.

Each service area station is equipped with two 600 kW liquid-cooled supercharging piles and ten 250 kW fast-charging piles. The charging host’s maximum power reaches 720 kW, with terminal power peaking at 600 kW, greatly improving charging efficiency and convenience. The ultra-fast "one second per kilometer" charging speed easily meets the high demand during holidays, ensuring full coverage of "fast charging + supercharging + battery swapping" along the highway, creating a smart, low-carbon highway transportation system. This effort supports the high-quality development of Hubei as a transportation powerhouse.

As a provider of charging network solutions, Huawei Digital Power is accelerating the construction of a high-quality charging infrastructure centered on ultra-fast charging. In collaboration with automakers, charging operators, and industry partners, Huawei is forming a supercharging alliance.

Looking ahead, Huawei Digital Power will continue to work with customers and partners to advance the construction of high-quality charging infrastructure focused on ultra-fast charging, creating a user-friendly, grid-friendly, and highly efficient smart charging network that ensures high-quality charging wherever there are roads.
