Breaker Compartment:

Through-the-door design: You can perform the following operations without opening the breaker door: move the breaker between positions, operate the manual charging system and view the spring charge status indicator, open and close the breaker, adjust the trip unit, and read the breaker nameplate.

Four-position drawout: The breaker can be in connected, test, disconnected, or removed positions. With the breaker compartment door closed, the breaker can transition between connected, test, and disconnected positions.

Automatic closing spring release: When the breaker is removed from its compartment, a mechanical interlock automatically releases the closing spring.

Breaker inspection: The breaker can be fully accessed for visual inspection when removed from the rails, without the need for lifting. The rails are a permanent feature of each breaker compartment, and interlocks are in place to prevent inserting the wrong size breaker into a compartment of the same physical dimensions.

Busbars:

Cross busbars: The cross busbars in Magnum DS switchgear are rated according to UL standards for horizontal and vertical busbars with a temperature rise of 65°C above the ambient air temperature of 40°C.

Busbar current ratings: Magnum DS busbars are rated for continuous current ratings of 2000, 3200, 4000, 5000, and 6000 amperes. Ratings for 8000 and 10000 amperes are also available.

Busbar supports: The unique vertical busbar configuration offers an optional short-circuit withstand rating of 150kA without the need for pre-installed current-limiting fuses. The standard support rating is 100kA. The “U” shaped busbar is the core of the Magnum DS vertical busbar system, offering greater mechanical strength. Testing has verified the system’s ability to withstand an 85kA short circuit for 60 cycles.

Integral Base:

Robust base: The sturdy base greatly increases the structural rigidity, reducing the risk of damage during installation, suitable for rolling, jacking, and transport. Lifting lugs are permanently welded to the enclosure structure for added strength.

Heavy-duty door hinges: Breaker doors are mounted on hinge pins, allowing easy removal by simply lifting the hinge pin. This provides easy access to the interior of the breaker compartment for inspection and maintenance.

Rear covers/doors: Magnum DS switchgear features standard rear covers with fixed hardware and bolted connections. They are split into two sections for easier handling during removal and installation. Optional rear doors are available.

Cable Compartment:

Spacious cable compartment: Provides ample space for terminating power cables. The removable top roof plate allows for easy installation of conduits. The cable compartment floor is open, allowing cables to enter from underground ducts, with optional floor plates available.

Cable lug installation: Cable lugs are positioned at the breaker’s outgoing terminal to accommodate 45-degree angled lugs, reducing the required cable bending radius and minimizing installation and maintenance time. The standard configuration includes mechanically fastened screw-type lugs.
