September 9, 2024 – Power management company Eaton has announced plans to collaborate with Tesla to enhance the functionality and adoption of home energy storage and solar systems across North America. Tesla’s Powerwall, set for release in early 2025, will support Eaton’s new AbleEdge™ smart circuit breaker, making it easier for homeowners and installers to implement smart load management. This will optimize energy usage and extend backup power during grid outages.

Aligned with Eaton’s "Home as a Grid" strategy, the collaboration aims to create flexible energy systems that allow integrated management of energy consumption. Solutions from Eaton and Tesla will be showcased at the RE+ 24 event from September 10-12 in Anaheim, California, at Eaton's booth (D32011) and Tesla's booth (D22041).

Paul Ryan, General Manager of Eaton’s Connected Solutions and EV Charging division, stated: “Until now, installing energy storage with load management has been a complex and time-consuming process. By leveraging the expertise and customer base of Eaton and Tesla, we aim to bring a mainstream solution that utilizes dynamic, automated energy load management, extending the usable life of backup power during outages.”

Eaton’s AbleEdge smart circuit breaker, designed for modularity and scalability, will integrate into any Eaton BR load center or meter breaker, reducing equipment costs and installation time. Tesla’s Powerwall will integrate with Eaton’s smart breaker, providing energy storage with advanced load management. This interoperable solution, securely connected, will allow homeowners and installers to use Tesla’s app for installation, commissioning, and control, reducing complexity.
