Huawei's DriveOne Motor: Is It Advanced?

Time:2024-08-23   Author:As Beam   Browse:

Unlike traditional fuel vehicles, Chinese car manufacturers have risen to prominence in the electric vehicle sector, with companies like BYD and Geely gaining the technical capability to compete with top-tier electric vehicle companies like Tesla.

BYD and Geely are well-established Chinese automakers, but Huawei, which is widely recognized as a technology giant in the communications industry, has also entered the electric vehicle market. The question is whether Huawei's DriveOne three-in-one motor can stand out amidst the competition from Tesla and BYD.

Let's first look at the DriveOne motor's specifications: it has a peak power of 220 kW, a peak speed of 17,300 rpm, and a compact design, weighing only about 100 kg after oil removal. It uses an efficient liquid cooling system combined with oil cooling. The motor speed of Huawei's DriveOne is between BYD's 16,000 rpm and Tesla's 19,000 rpm, with power equivalent to Tesla's 220 kW but slightly lower than BYD's 230 kW. From the specifications, the differences among the three motors are minimal—Tesla has the highest speed, BYD has the highest power, and overall, Huawei's DriveOne motor is balanced and competitive with mainstream motors on the market.

Cooling System and Motor Design

Huawei's DriveOne motor features a hollow stator structure that allows cooling oil to be directly injected, removing heat from the windings and core. The rotor oil passes through specially designed channels into the shaft holes, creating a cooling environment inside the shaft to dissipate the rotor's heat. This design allows the average peak temperature of the windings to be reduced by 30°C, and the peak temperature of the magnetic steel by 15°C, potentially doubling the motor's lifespan.

The DriveOne motor uses a V-shaped rotor slot layout, where the permanent magnets are inserted into the V-shaped slots, and the main structure consists of stacked silicon steel sheets. This design maximizes the magnetic flux lines crossing between the rotor and stator coils, enhancing the motor's efficiency. The magnetic field distribution of the DriveOne motor is excellent, displaying a hexagram shape.

Rotor Layout and Magnetic Field Distribution

Compared to BYD and Tesla's flat wire windings, Huawei's DriveOne motor uses a more basic round wire winding, which has a lower space utilization rate. However, at high speeds, motors experience the skin effect, and as the speed increases, the advantage of flat wire windings gradually decreases—though this advantage still exists.

Currently, models such as the Avatr 11 and AITO M5 are equipped with Huawei's DriveOne motor. The long-term performance of Huawei's motor will require feedback from users over extended periods. We hope that our domestic motors will live up to expectations and deliver excellent performance in vehicles.
