Understanding the Origins of Bussmann 170M Series Fuses

Time:2024-09-05   Author:As Beam   Browse:

Eaton’s Bussmann 170M Series fuses are high-speed square body semiconductor fuses designed for use in AC and DC drives, power converters, rectifiers, and variable speed drives, with voltage ratings up to 2000VAC and 1000VDC and current ratings ranging from 1 to 5500 amps. These fuses are commonly seen in various inverter cabinets to protect sensitive equipment.

However, today we won’t focus on the applications or electrical specifications of the 170M series fuses. Instead, let's explore their origin and the potential differences between fuses manufactured in different regions.

Bussmann 170M Series Fuse Manufacturing Locations

The 170M series is primarily produced in two regions: Asia and Europe.

Asian Manufacturing: Bussmann’s factories in China and India produce the 170M series.

European Manufacturing: Bussmann’s factories in Hungary and Denmark also manufacture the 170M series.

Regarding the model number structure, fuses labeled as "170MxxxxD" are dual-indicator fuses. As Beam, a long-term authorized distributor of Bussmann products, we know that Bussmann’s China plant has not yet produced any 170M fuses with the "D" designation (dual indicator). For example, the 170M3816D is produced in India. Moreover, due to cost considerations, many European-manufactured fuses are now being shifted to production in Asia.

Identifying Fuse Origins

In many cases, it’s difficult to determine the manufacturing origin of a 170M fuse solely based on the model number because certain models are produced in multiple locations without any differentiation in the numbering. For instance, 170M8639 is manufactured in both China and India. For fuses like this, customers can’t specify the production location. Typically, distribution is managed geographically. As Beam is a Bussmann distributor for the Chinese region, the 170M8639 fuses we supply are most likely to come from Bussmann’s China factory.

Lead Time

For fuses produced in Bussmann’s Chinese factory, lead times are typically 4-6 weeks.

Fuses from the Indian factory usually require 12-14 weeks.

European-produced fuses take even longer, with lead times reaching 16-18 weeks.

Summary

We generally cannot control the manufacturing origin of 170M series fuses. If you have a specific preference for European-made fuses, it is best to contact Eaton’s European distributors. If you need fuses produced in India, Eaton’s Indian distributors are your best option. However, if you have no particular preference, feel free to contact us at As Beam, and we will provide the best possible service and comprehensive technical support tailored to your needs.
